Visitors and residents will easily lose themselves in the natural beauty of Pitimbu and its surroundings. A multitude of activities are available to enjoy. Beyond the many charming villages, the coastline offers a range of pursuits such as surfing, fishing, diving, snorkeling, sailing or just swimming in the sublime tropical waters.
The gently sloping beaches and protecting riffs allow for safe bathing.
It's also a good place to see jangadas - small fishing rafts with huge curving triangular sails - in action.
Huge forests can be explored by walking, hiking, or riding. If you are taken by the urge to explore the local cultural heritage, why not take a day trip to the capital, Joao Pessoa? It is one of the oldest cities in Brazil, with numerous colonial monasteries, churches and monuments from the 16th and 17th centuries. Paraiba has a rich history that has frequently involved the clashing interests of past colonial powers.
Manguape, near the border of Rio Grande do Norte hosts a centre for the preservation of the sea cow (Peixe Boi Marinho). And at the nearby Baía da Traição Beach (Bay of Betrayal) you'll find the only remaining Potiguar Indian Reserve - protected by FUNAI, the federal institute that looks after the Brazilian Indians and their territories.
Excellent connections to neighbouring states allow you to travel and explore many other parts of this vast country.
But even if all you choose to do is sunbathe or read a book on a pristine, undisturbed beach - and then retire to some small bar or eatery along the seafront during the evening - you will have the privilege of residing in spectacular surroundings as yet unaffected by mass tourism.
